Which CITB Test to Take?

The most common test type is Operatives Test. The Operatives Test covers most trades & CSCS Cards i.e Labourers, Bricklayers, Carpenters, Painters & Decorators, Groundworkers, Dry Liners, Floorers, Plasterers, Stone Fixers and many more and suitable for: Green CSCS Card, Blue CSCS Card, Gold CSCS Card and Red CSCS Card.

  • You may need to take another test if you are any of the below:
    – Manager or Professional = Managers & Professionals Test (Black Managers Card / White AQP/PQP Cards)
    – Supervisor = Supervisor Test (Gold Supervisor CSCS Card)
    – Plumber = Plumbing/Gas Test 
    – Demolition = Demolition Test 
    – Highways = Highway Works Test

What’s required?

Blue Skilled Worker CSCS Card

What’s required?
1. Relevant CITB Test.
2. Construction related NVQ/SVQ level 2 or SVQ at SCQF level 5

Red Provisional CSCS Card (Temporary)

What’s required?
1. CITB Operatives Test
Note: Valid For 6 months

Black Managers CSCS Card

What’s required?
1. CITB Managers and Professionals (MAP) Health, Safety and Environment Test
2. Construction Management/Technical related (NVQ/SVQ Level 4,5,6 or 7) or (SVQ at SCQF Level 10 or 11).

Gold Supervisory CSCS Card

What’s required?
1. CITB Supervisors Test (SPEC-SUP)
2. Construction related Supervisory/Technical NVQ or SVQ level 3 or 4.

Red Experienced Worker CSCS Card

What’s required?
1. Relevant CITB Test.
2. Registered for an approved construction related NVQ/SVQ Level 2, SVQ at SCQF level 5 or higher.
Note: Valid For 1 Year.

White AQP CSCS Card

What’s required?
1. CITB Managers and Professionals (MAP) Health, Safety and Environment Test
2. Construction related degrees, HNDs, HNCs, CIOB Certificates and certain NEBOSH diplomas and certificates.

Experienced Technical, Supervisor or Manager Card

What’s required?
1. Relevant CITB Test. Know More.
2. Supervisors, Managers and Technical Workers with on the job experience (normally at least one year in the last three) whom are registered to a complete an approved construction related Technical, Supervisory or Management (TSM) NVQ/SVQ Level 3, SVQ at SCQF level 6 or higher.

Red Trainee CSCS Card

What’s required?
1. CITB Operatives Test
2. The Red Trainee CSCS Card is for those who are registered for construction related qualification. 

Gold Skilled Worker Card

What’s required?
1. Relevant CITB Test.
2. Construction Related NVQ or SVQ level 3 / Completed an approved apprenticeship (e.g.with NJCBI, BATJIC etc.) / Completed an employer sponsored apprenticeship that included the achievement of a City and Guilds of London Institute Advanced Craft Certificate.

White PQP CSCS Card

What’s required?
1. CITB Managers and Professionals (MAP) Health, Safety and Environment Test
2. Applicants must supply proof that they hold current membership of the professional body at a level accepted by CSCS

The CITB Health, Safety, and Environment (HS&E) Test is a mandatory requirement for obtaining a Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) Card. It is designed to ensure that workers have the necessary knowledge of health and safety practices to work safely on construction sites.

    The test consists of 50 multiple-choice questions.
    Includes sections on general health and safety, environmental awareness, and specific scenarios relevant to your role.
    The duration is 45 minutes.Passing the Test: A passing score is usually 45/50 (90%), but this may vary slightly depending on the test type.

  2. Validity: Passing the test is valid for 2 years, within which you can apply for or renew your CSCS card.

Yes, you can reschedule your test free of charge, provided you do so at least 4 working days before the test date and time.

  • Rescheduling is free if completed 4 working days before the test.
  • You must reschedule within this timeframe—no exceptions.
  • Rescheduling is not permitted within 4 working days of the scheduled test date.

Cancellation Policy:
  • Within 4 working days of the test date: No refund can be issued.
  • More than 4 working days before the test date: A refund can be provided for each test booked, minus a £20 administration fee.

3. Apply for Renewal: Renew your CSCS Card via  Card Booking Application.

Important Tip: Don’t let your card expire before starting the renewal process. You may be unable to work on certain sites without a valid CSCS card.
